William Baker Obituary

William “Willy” Charles Baker (April 14, 1948 – March 22, 2026) has officially hung up his tool belt and headed for the great hunting grounds in the sky to join his parents and beloved brother, Thomas Baker (1952-2015). Willy was never more at peace than when he was on the water, and we are certain he is currently enjoying a high tide and a perfect breeze.

Willy was born to Harry and Jean (Nolen) Baker and spent his early years in Readville. For a long stretch, he lived the dream (or survived the chaos) on Hyde Park Ave alongside his beloved in-laws, Anna and John Citrone, before finally making his move to Walpole with his then wife, Jo-Anne Citrone Baker in 1992.

A proud graduate of Boston Tech High School, Willy served his country bravely during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon returning, he became a Master Plumber and worked for the Commonwealth Gas Company in Dedham. Willy was at his happiest when he was outside on an annual hunting trip, on a boat waiting for a fish to bite, watching the ocean in Dennisport, golfing where he should not be, or taking his beloved grand twins, Michael and Brendan McIntosh, to Blue Hills. Willy was also the proud Papa to two beautiful, strong, and brilliant grandaughters, Shannon McIntosh and Haleigh Bibbo. Willy was a huge fan of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Given all of that he even found time to teach his grandson Nolan Bibbo how to drive at 8!

Willy leaves behind a legacy of laughter and a very specific "Papa Willy" brand of mischief. His daughters, Sabrina (Baker) McIntosh and Tamatha (Baker) Bibbo, who survived his jokes, his dancing, and his stock-market advice; his sons-in-laws, John McIntosh and Paul Bibbo, who both stepped into the line of fire with grace; his siblings Henry Baker of Walpole, Patricia Bunner of Ohio, Eileen McDonald of Readville. Willy is also survived by Jo-Anne (Citrone) Baker, his ex-wife with whom he shared 41 years of marriage and memories. Finally, Willy’s legacy is continued through his grandchildren: Michael, Brendan, and Shannon McIntosh; Nolan and Haleigh Bibbo—all of who are arguably better athletes than the rest of us thanks to him.  Willy is also survived by a small army of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his jovial spirit and his uncanny ability to light up a room. He was a doting father, a legendary Papa, and a friend to anyone who didn't mind a few unexpected jokes. He leaves us now for calmer seas and a permanent spot on the shore.
