Thomas P. McGrath, known lovingly to family and friends as Tom, passed away on May 19, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 81. Born on September 11, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts, he lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and quiet strength, and he will be remembered always as a loving, friendly, and gentle man.

Tom was the beloved husband of Daniel Collazo, whom he met in 1980 and married in 2012, and together they shared 40 wonderful years of companionship, love, and unwavering support. Their life together was built on mutual respect, deep affection, and countless cherished memories. He was the cherished son of the late Michael and Marion O'Keefe McGrath and a devoted brother to Patricia Blanchard and her husband Edward of Easton, Florence Sera and her late husband James of Attleboro, Donna McGrath of Norton, and the late Edward McGrath, Marion Smith and her late husband John, Noreen Jones and her surviving husband Walter, and the late Michael McGrath. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who were fortunate to know his warmth and steadiness.

A graduate of high school, Tom began his working life with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment. He spent 35 years with Verizon Phone Company as an equipment installer, where he was known for his reliability, skill, and strong work ethic until retiring at the age of 55. He took pride in doing his job well and in being someone others could count on. His long career reflected the same dependable character that guided every part of his life.

Outside of work, Tom embraced life with enthusiasm and a genuine appreciation for the world around him. He loved traveling and especially enjoyed cruises, along with memorable trips to Europe for his honeymoon, as well as visits to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. These journeys brought him joy and lasting memories, and he cherished the experiences he shared along the way. He also found great happiness in gardening, where he created some of the most beautiful flower gardens, tending to them with care and patience. Being outdoors was one of his greatest pleasures, and he spent many hours planting flowers and looking after them with pride.

Tom also enjoyed simple gatherings and time well spent with others. He loved backyard barbecues and was happiest when hosting friends and family, sharing good food, conversation, and laughter. Cape Cod held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed going there to relax and spend time in a setting he loved. He also appreciated war movies, which were among his favorite pastimes. Whether he was at home, traveling, or enjoying the company of those closest to him, Tom brought a calm and comforting presence that made others feel welcome and cared for.

Those who knew Tom will remember him for the love he gave so freely, the kindness he showed without hesitation, and the gentle way he moved through life. He had a way of making people feel at ease, and his steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone around him. His family and friends will forever hold close the many memories of his laughter, his generosity, and his devotion to those he loved.

Tom’s life was a testament to loyalty, hard work, and deep affection for family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, the legacy of his goodness will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.
