Maryellen (Garrity) Curran, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away on November 2, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 3, 1945, in Boston, MA, Maryellen lived a life marked by devotion to her loved ones and a passion for nurturing those around her.

In 1966, amid the remnants of a grand snowstorm, Maryellen married the love of her life, P. Richard "Ricky" Curran. Their wedding, a testament to their adoration for each other, saw guests braving the snow to witness their union. Their love story continued until Ricky's passing in 2022, leaving a legacy of unwavering partnership.

Maryellen's role as a mother was one of her greatest joys. She is survived by her children: Christine Curran O'Brien and her husband Fred of Sarasota, FL; Paul Curran and his wife Donna of Hyde Park; Andrew Curran and his wife Karen of Foxboro; Laura Curran of Norwood; and David Curran and his wife Cindy of Braintree. Her sisterly bond remains cherished by Kathleen Beauchamp of Pawtucket, RI, and Margaret Garrity and her husband Rich of Oregon.

Her grandchildren, Patrick, Kelsey, Marissa, Courtney, Ally, Julia, Meghan, Paul III, Lila, Paige, Bridgette, and Derek, will fondly remember her as their "Grammy," a title she bore with pride and love. The joy of her later years was further enriched by her great-grandchildren, Poppy and Conor, and the family bonds are further remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends.

Maryellen's educational achievements included graduating from Hyde Park High School and earning an Associate's degree from Boston City Hospital's Nursing Program. Her professional journey began in the E.R. at City Hospital in Boston, where she served with compassion for five years. After dedicating time to her growing family, she returned to the workforce at Parkwell Nursing Home, where she cared for geriatric patients for over 25 years. Her dedication and excellence were recognized through multiple Employee of the Year awards before her well-deserved retirement.

Her interests painted a picture of a woman who cherished life's simple pleasures and family ties. Maryellen's love for travel led her to frequent road trips to PEI, Canada, where she enjoyed serene summers at the family cottage. A matriarch through and through, she hosted every holiday gathering, with Christmas and Thanksgiving being particularly special occasions in her home. Her culinary talents, especially her desserts, were legendary among family and friends.

Maryellen's presence at her grandchildren's sporting events was unmistakable; her competitive spirit and encouraging voice echoed from the stands. Despite never being fond of flying, she never let it hinder her from traveling; she preferred the open road to the skies. Her lifelong friendships, forged in college, remained a constant source of joy and companionship, as she made it a point to keep in touch regularly.

Loving, kind, and friendly—these words only begin to capture the essence of Maryellen. Her life was a testament to the power of nurturing relationships and the beauty of a life well-lived. Maryellen's legacy is one of love, family, and the countless lives she touched, both personally and professionally. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew her. Maryellen (Garrity) Curran's journey on this earth may have concluded, but her story of love and compassion will continue to inspire for generations to come.
