Mary Senior Obituary

Mary Jane (Carty) Senior, passed peacefully at the age of 85 with her family at her side, in her home in Hyde Park, on October 15, 2024.  Beloved wife of the late Charles Senior of 66 years. Devoted daughter of the late James Carty and Mary (Cunningham) Carty.  Loving mother of Kathleen Senior-Chapman (the late Michael) of West Roxbury, Kevin Senior (Sheilagh) of Wakefield, Eileen McGrail (Daniel) of Wrentham, Brian Senior (Lisa) of Norwood, Neil Senior (Alison) of Sunapee, NH and Laurie Senior-Giosi (Mark) of Wrentham. Loving brother of  the late Thomas Carty and his wife Laurice. Also survived by twelve loving grandchildren, three precious great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Jane spent her whole life living in the Fairmount section of Hyde Park.  She attended St Raphael’s School in Hyde Park and Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston.  During her time here, she worked at the Boston Public Library, a job she enjoyed very much.  After marrying Charlie in 1958, they purchased a home five houses away from where she grew up.  There, they raised their six children and made many wonderful family memories.

She loved being a mom and created a loving environment, wonderful holidays, and fun times spent with grandparents and extended family. Even as her children were adults, they could always count on her to be there when needed.

The only thing that made her happier than being a mom was being Nana.  She truly was the best and took immense joy in the birth of all twelve grandchildren.  She never missed a sporting event, dance recital, theater performance, sacraments, graduations, and weddings.  Even as her mobility became limited as she got older, she was determined to be there for all her grandchildren’s biggest life events.

Beyond her own children and grandchildren, Jane was like a mother to countless others she met.  Her compassion and unconditional love for others is what made her so special.  It did not matter the situation or time of day, if you needed something, the door was always open and the teapot was warming on the stove.  She touch the hearts of so many who will keep her memory alive.

In their later years, Jane and Charlie loved to spend time with her brother Tom and his wife Laurice, along with many other friends in places such as York, ME, Falmouth, MA, the Northshore Music Circus, and many other excursions.  The bond these friends formed became like a family that has passed on to their children and grandchildren who continue to gather for similar events.

Jane was very proud of her Irish heritage and was at her happiest when she visited both her paternal and maternal families in  the towns of Ballinlough and Curraghboy, Co. Roscommon, with her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  She was also an active parishioner at St. Pius X Church in Hyde Park.
