Joseph S. Barber of Norwood, January 7, age 79 passed away after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family in his home. Beloved husband of 55 years to Wadiha Najet (Barbour). Son of the late Samuel (Salim) Barber, born in Jbeil, Lebanon and Josephine (Otash), born in Lawrence, MA. Father of Josephine Cordahi and her husband Kalim of Norfolk, Nidah Barber and her husband Frank Raymond of Beverly Hills, CA, Sue Ellen Barber of Norwood, and Laila Barber. Brother of the late Shirley Kanelos and her husband, Nick and brother of Janice Matthews and Bill Byczek of Eustis, FL.
Loving “Jiddo” of 6 grandchildren- Elias, Jad, Pamela, Klea, Frankie and Sammy and uncle to many nieces, nephews, and loving & devoted friends.
Joseph attended Cathedral High School in Boston, and in November of 1961, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS WASP until January of 1966.
He attended Wentworth Institute. In 1985 he received a Honorary Master’s Degree from Cambridge College.
Joseph worked for the federal government as project manager and engineer at Analog Devices, Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Carroll-Thomas Funeral Home, 22 Oak St., Hyde Park. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Church, 61 Rockwood St., Jamaica Plain at 10:30am on Friday. Interment at Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Church.
