Joseph Abdelahad Obituary

Joseph Abdelahad of Roslindale passed peacefully on April 18th surrounded by his loving family at the age of 101.  Beloved husband of the late Rose (Martucci).  Son of the late Mary and Mitry.  Devoted father of Rosemarie Myers and her husband Richard of South Weymouth, Lorraine Abbene and her husband Benjamin of East Weymouth, and the late Diana Abdelahad.  Brother of the late Mabel Heinz, Julia Battite, Linda Scotellaro, Yvonne Everts, and Elaine Jones.  Loving "Grandpa" of Jennifer, Caitlin, Craig, Paige, Benjamin, Paul, and Elise and great grandfather of Keegan, Rosalie, Camryn, Calvin, and Drew.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.  Visiting hours will be held from 9-10:15 AM on Wednesday April 27 at St. John of Damascus Church 300 West Street Dedham followed by a Funeral Service at the church at 10:30AM.  Interment at Fairview Cemetery.  Originally from Boston's South End, Joe was born in 1920 and is 1st generation Syrian-American.  He began supporting his sisters as a teenager soon after his father's death during the great depression.  He always found a way to make ends meet and take care of everyone around him.  He enlisted into the US Army-World War II October of 1941 where he was stationed all over the world, ultimately serving in Manchuria as a Crew Chief/Tech Sergeant for the B-17 Bomber.  He married his late wife Rose "the love of his life" in 1952 and the two of them raised their 3 daughters in Roslindale where he lived independently until his age of 100.  He worked 2 jobs at a time for decades, including his full-time position at Gillette Company in South Boston before his retirement in 1986.  He has always been very warm and generous and everyone that met him loved him.  There's a charm about him that brings out the best in you.  Fluent in both English and Arabic, he enjoyed playing the Oud, card games with friends, going to the casino and watching horse racing but his true love was for his family.j Family was everything to him.
