James A. Shea Jr. "Jeff" of Hyde Park passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024 at the age of 65. Cherished son of the late James A. Shea and Grace (Dowd). Devoted brother of Sara Maurno and her late husband Dann of Salem, Bart Shea (BFD) and his wife Julie of West Roxbury, Jere Shea and his wife Elaine of Hopkinton and Jody Shea (BFD) and his wife Keri of Dedham. Loving uncle of Jesse, Emily and Caitlin Shea.
Jeff’s super power was his love for people! He never forgot a name and lit up when he met you again. The fellowship and community he found in AA was instrumental in his life and he was proud of his many years of sobriety. He lived a life of service to others, volunteering at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital Emergency Shelter for the Homeless in Jamaica Plain, and for many years with The American Red Cross and the Medical Foundation Referral Services Helpline for those in crisis. Jeff retired from the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services having worked the majority of his 28 years of service at The Walter E. Fernald State School and then in community-based homes supporting people with developmental disabilities. Until his retirement in 2017 he passionately fulfilled his role as a longtime executive board representative of the AFSCME (American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees).
Jeff will be remembered and missed by many. All services will be private at family’s request.
