Born on April 10, 1933, in the West End of Boston, MA, Helen was a beacon of kindness and love, touching the lives of everyone she met with her gentle spirit.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Allegro, with whom she shared over 50 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a family grounded in love and mutual respect. As a devoted mother, Helen cherished her five children: Kathleen Allegro of Hyde Park, Nancy Bailey and her husband William of Kingston, Joseph Allegro Jr. and his wife Etty of Jamaica Plain, Stephen Allegro and his wife Tracy of Quincy, and Christopher Allegro and his wife Darlene of Hyde Park. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was the heart around which they all revolved.
In addition to being a loving mother, Helen was a cherished sister to Margaret Kenny and her late husband William of Dedham, Joseph Ferlito of Washington, and Salvatore Ferlito Jr. and his partner Joan Cardoza and his late wife Helen. She was predeceased by her dear sister, Grace Ferlito. Helen's family extended beyond her siblings to include many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws, with whom she maintained close and nurturing relationships throughout her life.
Helen's role as "Grammy" was one she held dear, and she adored her grandchildren: Bob, Stephanie, Nadia, Michelle, Maya, Eric, Serena, Remy, Jo, Isabella, and Liliana. Her legacy of love continued with her great-grandchildren, affectionately known to her as "Great Great": Dominic, Harper, Cecily, Mack, and Morgan. Helen's home was always filled with laughter and warmth, a testament to the loving environment she cultivated.
Helen's life was rich with interests and passions that she pursued with vigor and enthusiasm. She was a talented artist, finding joy in ceramics and needlepoint, where her creativity and attention to detail shone brightly. A loyal fan of the New England Patriots, Helen rarely missed a game, cheering enthusiastically for her team. She had a love for cooking and delighted in preparing meals for her family, creating dishes that became family favorites and traditions.
A voracious reader, Helen enjoyed the convenience of her Kindle, always eager to dive into a new book and explore different worlds through literature. Her love for travel took her to various destinations, where she embraced new cultures and experiences, always returning home with stories and souvenirs that enriched her life and those around her.
Gardening was another of Helen's beloved pastimes, and her garden was a reflection of her nurturing nature. She took great pleasure in tending to her plants, watching them grow and bloom under her care. Helen's phone was a lifeline to her old friends, with whom she shared countless conversations, laughter, and memories over the years. Her involvement with the Mil-Par senior group provided her with community and camaraderie, enriching her life with friendships and shared experiences.
Helen was also a compassionate supporter of many causes, including Habitat for Humanity and the Perkins School for the Blind, where her contributions helped make a difference in the lives of others. Her generosity and empathy were hallmarks of her character, inspiring those around her to give back and support their communities.
