Giancarlo Gonzalez Obituary

Giancarlo "Gian" Gonzalez, of Quincy, formerly of Hyde Park and Jamaica Plain, passed peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 38.

Cherished fiancé of Amy McLaughlin, his partner of 10 years and the love of his life. Beloved son of Carlos and Rhina Gonzalez of Hyde Park. Devoted brother of Brian Gonzalez and Andy Gonzalez of Hyde Park, Carla Garcia of Worcester, Gloria Gonzalez of Florida, and Carlos Gonzalez of Florida. Gian had a special love for his dogs; Banksy, Daphne, Niko, Skittles, and Booty, each of whom held a piece of his heart. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and an extensive circle of close friends who became family.

To know Gian was to know patience, compassion, and unwavering generosity. He had a quiet strength and a steady kindness that made people feel safe, heard, and deeply cared for. His smile was soft but constant, and his presence made any room feel lighter.

He was a true light in the lives of so many, especially Amy’s and his family’s. Gian was always down to show up, especially for the people he loved. Whether it was being dragged to out-of-state Lumineers concerts, jet-setting for Patriot’s away-games, exploring new museums, walking quietly on the beach, or braving the great outdoors (despite his legendary dislike for bugs,) he was there.

He never needed to be in the spotlight, and he never needed a plan; he just needed to be with you. That was more than enough.

Gian loved deeply and lived gently. He treasured quality time with his parents; taking his Mami out shopping, reluctantly helping his Papi out around the house, or hanging out watching a movie; he always knew exactly what his Mami would want to watch.

His brothers Brian and Andy were his true best friends, and their language was not always understood by others. They enjoyed playing video games, watching movies, and he loved taking trips out to visit them in San Diego. He was a collector of memories and of things that made him smile: Funko Pops, Star Wars memorabilia, Pokémon cards & more. His favorite movies—especially Back to the Future—reflected his personality: nostalgic, hopeful, and always believing in the power of love and time. Somewhere, we imagine him finally getting a chance to ride that DeLorean, going 88 mph into the past to relive his happiest days, or maybe… hopefully… into the future, to watch over all of us.

Together with Amy, Gian fostered over 40 dogs, giving each a safe place to land before finding their forever home. Despite being allergic, he adored dogs; his own, the ones he walked each week at work, and even random ones on the street. He had a knack for making each one feel like the most loved creature in the world.

His absence has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who loved him, but in that emptiness, we’ll also find gratitude: for the memories, the support, the laughter, the dog hair, and the thousands of tiny moments Gian gave so freely, even if he was a little late.
