Frank Murphy Obituary

Frank V. Murphy, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his Hyde Park, MA home on May 1, 2023. Born on July 12, 1928, in Boston, MA, Frank was known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

Frank was the beloved husband of Rose I (Padrevita) for 71 years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Frank was the proud father of Rosemary Cochran and her husband John of Milton, Frank Murphy and his wife Janine of Dedham, John Murphy and his wife Diane of Burlington, Patrick Murphy (BFD) and his wife Barbara of Weymouth, and Col. Paul Murphy USAF (Ret) and his wife Denise of Portsmouth, RI.

He was the loving brother of the late Marjorie Meehan and James Murphy. As a doting grandfather, Frank was affectionately known as "Pops" to Courtney, Kevin, Alexandra, Liam, John, Patrick, Brendan, MaryCatherine, Erin, Sean, Paul, Bridget, Timothy, Frank, and Molly. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Alayna, Callahan, Jocelyn, McKinley, and Shea. Frank is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Frank was a graduate of Boston Technical High School, class of 1945, and Northeastern University. His education laid the foundation for a fulfilling career as a dedicated Boston school teacher, where he touched the lives of countless students with his wisdom and kindness. For twenty-four years prior to his teaching career, Frank worked for Sears Roebuck & Company, where he met his wife.

As a couple, Frank and Rose loved having fun with family and friends. They enjoyed dancing at the Irish Social Club on Sunday nights and the Norwood Irish Club on Saturdays.

An avid sports fan, Frank was a member of the Boston Braves Historical Society and served as Commissioner of the Hyde Park Jr. AA Baseball. He was also a co-coach for Hyde Park High School and St. Joseph's Hockey, as well as Hyde Park Pop Warner Football. Later in life, Frank loved playing with his friends at the George Wright Golf Course.

Frank was a proud Army veteran, serving his country with honor and distinction. His commitment to service continued throughout his life as an active member of the American Legion, where he forged lasting friendships and contributed to the betterment of his community.

Frank's life was characterized by his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his career and community, and his kindness to all who knew him. His warm and gentle spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Frank V. Murphy's legacy of love, kindness, and wisdom will live on through the cherished memories of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral from the Carroll-Thomas Funeral Home 22 Oak Street Hyde Park Wednesday, May 10 at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Pius X Church 101 Wolcott Rd, Milton at 10:30am. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 9 from 4pm-7pm at the funeral home.  Interment at Fairview Cemetery Hyde Park, relatives and friends invited.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank's memory to St Pius X Church, 20 Como Road, Readville, MA 02136 .
