Fernando Lopes Correia, a man of immense charm, wit, and devotion, passed away on April 13, 2026, following a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was 84 years old.

Born in Portugal on January 2, 1942, Fernando completed his education in his homeland. It was there that he married the love of his life, Elena. Seeking to build a bright future for their family, the couple moved to Boston in 1964, settling on Neponset Avenue in Hyde Park – the place they would call home for the next 62 years.

Fernando’s professional life was defined by his incredible work ethic and his natural ability to connect with people. He spent over 50 years as a traveling salesman for Sporto, a career that took him to every single state in the U.S. His humor and kindness made him a favorite among colleagues and clients alike; it was often said that Fernando never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t charmed yet.

Beyond his work, Fernando was a man of simple but deep passions. He was an avid fan of soccer and enjoyed the quiet challenge of the golf course. However, his greatest joy was his family. He was fiercely protective and immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, serving as the steady heart of the Correia family.

Fernando is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elena; his daughters, Andrea Correia and Lucy Doherty and her husband Michael; and his cherished grandchildren, Hannah Doherty, Hailey Doherty, Josephine Correia, and Fernando Correia. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Neal Correia. He also leaves behind his sister, Maria, and many extended family members in the U.S., Portugal, Brazil and Canada, and his faithful companion, his cat Violet.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the friends and neighbors whose kindness, support, and companionship brought such warmth and light to his life.

A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the medical team at Beth Israel for their compassionate care, dedication, and the comfort they provided during this difficult journey.

He will be remembered as a man who lived fully, traveled widely, and loved without bounds. His legacy of kindness and his legendary sense of humor will live on in the stories told by those who loved him most.
