Born in Fall River to Jeremiah Lowney and Auxilia Manard, he was the second of 12 children (Jeremiah, Charles, Daniel, William, Leonard, Theresa Raymond, Mary Levrault, Michael, Timothy, John and Joseph). Starting with nothing but the love and drive instilled by his parents, he worked his way through school to become a successful physician. He graduated from Temple University in 1959 with a degree in Pharmacology, and then he went to the Philadelphia School of Osteopathy. On June 20, 1960, he married the love of his life, Irene Medieros, who was one of Jose and Maria’s 14 children. Charlie and Irene worked and played side by side for 55 years, until Irene’s death in 2015. Together they raised 8 children: Michelle MacDonald Shimota (attorney), Charles (philosophy professor), Maria Elkaz (physician), Dawn Karol (attorney), Jeremiah (physician), Timothy (attorney), Irene Esdale (office manager), and Michael (physician). Dr. Lowney graduated Medical School in 1965 and became affiliated with the Massachusetts Osteopathic Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Soon after, he opened his own medical practice in Hyde Park. Dr. Lowney loved and cared for family, friends, patients and the community. Among many awards and honors, he was recognized by the YMCA as the Man of the Year in 2017, and was made an honorary Haitian by YOFES (Youth & Family Enrichment Services) also in 2017. He loved his work and practiced medicine for 60 years until melanoma brought retirement in 2024. His sons, Dr. Mike and Dr. Jay, and his daughter Irene, continue his legacy by serving the community at Lowney Medical Associates, 1234 Hyde Park Ave.

Dr. Lowney, aka Papa, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love of his children and 86 years of beautiful memories. He is survived by his 8 children, 28 grandchildren (Luke, Stephanie, Abby, Gabrielle, Alexandra, Mackenzie, Devon, Jordan, Jackie, Jake, Grace, Ava, Ben, Charles A., Anthony, Charles D., Sean, Alanna, Mia, Michael, Timothy, Violet, Leo, Matheu, Manny, Michael J., Jeremiah, Irene), and 6 great grandchildren (Cace, Christian, Kelliana, Hendrix, William and Sophie). The wake will be held at St. Pius Church (101 Wolcott Rd. Milton) from 3 pm to 8 pm on Friday, December 20th.  The Funeral Mass will begin at 10 am on Saturday December 21st, also at St. Pius Church.
