Dolores R. (Zaniboni) Hufnagel, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 6, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on June 2, 1934, in Boston, MA, Dolores, fondly known as Dolly by those who loved her, devoted her life to her family, her faith, and her community.
A lifelong resident of Hyde Park, Dolores was a proud graduate of Hyde Park High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, William P. Hufnagel, with whom she shared a beautiful and enduring marriage of 68 years. Together, they built a family foundation strong in faith, love, and tradition.
Dolores's life was characterized by her selfless nature and unwavering dedication to her family. She was the beloved wife of the late William P. Hufnagel, and a devoted mother to her children: Rosemary Conforto and her husband Mario, Pauline Saulnier and her husband Guy, William P. Hufnagel Jr. and his wife Marie, Donald A. Hufnagel and his companion Jeannie Fiske, Robert Hufnagel, and Christine Bambery and her husband Michael. Each of her children carried a piece of her heart and her legacy of compassion.
Her siblings, the late Emile, Louis, Ida, Anna, William, Mary, Celia, and Albert, held a special place in her life, as did her role as a cherished grandmother to Christina, Marc, William, Katherine, Joseph, William III, Jessica, Alex, Lisa, Eric, Michael, Shaun, and Erin. Dolores also embraced the joy of being a great-grandmother to Nathan, Victoria, Aurora, and Brandon. Her extended family, including many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws, and a wide circle of friends, will forever miss her presence.
Dolores's home was always open, a welcoming sanctuary filled with the aromas of her cooking and the warmth of her hospitality. It was a place where holidays, birthdays, and everyday celebrations were held, leaving those who entered with memories to cherish for a lifetime. Her northern Italian heritage was a vibrant thread woven through these gatherings, as she shared her culture through food, traditions, and stories.
Beyond her family, Dolores was deeply involved in her church community, giving countless hours of her time and boundless energy to volunteering. Her kindness extended beyond the walls of her home as she cared for others, always placing the needs of her family and community above her own.
Dolores's interests painted a picture of a life rich in joy and simplicity. She loved painting ceramics, a testament to her artistic spirit, and found solace in the tranquility of the beach. A strong cup of coffee was never far from her hand, and she cherished the moments of fellowship and laughter shared with her church friends.
Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, and gentle, Dolores's legacy is one of unwavering love and selflessness. Her dedication to God, her family, and her community was evident in every aspect of her life. Her absence will be profoundly felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we bid farewell to Dolores, we are comforted by the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Her love was a gift that enriched the lives of everyone she touched, and her memory will be treasured in our hearts forever. Dolores R. (Zaniboni) Hufnagel's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and she will be deeply missed.
