Dave graduated from Hingham High School in 1955 and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University in 1975. He served as a sergeant in the Massachusetts National Guard from 1958 through 1965 where he was known as Sergeant Sargent. He was always involved with the church and served as a lay leader responsible for Sunday school and pulpit supply sermons in the Methodist Church. He began his professional career in 1975 with the Commercial Union then retired in 1989 as the vice president of life underwriting with American Mutual Insurance Company. After official retirement, he continued to work until 2000 as a customer service supervisor for Allied American Life Agency and was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters
A true golf fanatic, David won the senior club championship at Sharon Country Club. He had an 8-handicap, shot 69 on par 70 course, and had FOUR lifetime hole-in-ones. He especially loved traveling to Hilton Head for golf weekends with his son David. Dave was a member of two cribbage leagues. He enjoyed games including bowling, playing intense games of Liverpool rummy and Mexican Train with family, and pinochle on his computer. He enjoyed watching and rooting for the Patriots and especially the Celtics. Everyone loved and looked forward to getting gifts of his famous homemade peanut butter balls from his secret recipe. We are hoping to come across that recipe hidden somewhere amongst his belongings.
