Christopher Kirk Obituary

Christopher George Kirk, devoted husband, father, brother, son, colleague, and coach,
passed away on March 16, 2026 after a year-long battle with cancer. He faced illness
with remarkable bravery and grace, and remained steadfast in his desire to contribute,
to care for others, and to stay constant and present for his family.

Chris is survived by his wife of 27 years, Breanna, and their three children Garrett, Celia,
and Leo. He was a deeply devoted father, who took pride in showing up not just for big
milestones but for everyday moments like homework at the dining room table, where he
specialized in assisting on the completion of posterboard-centered school projects,
supporting his children’s athletic pursuits as either best-in-class coach or loyal fan,
organizing memorable family vacations, and providing elegant, practical guidance for
solving complex problems.

Born October 10, 1970 in Poughkeepsie, New York, Chris was the third of four children
of the late Francis David Kirk and Rosemary Diane (Foy) Kirk, who survives him. Chris
was predeceased by his eldest brother, David Kirk, and is survived by his sister, Tammy
Kirk, and her husband, Stephen Elliot, and their children, Grayson, Nolan, Lochlan, and
Addison; as well as his brother, Matthew Kirk, and his wife, Whitney, and their sons,
William and Grant. Growing up in a close-knit family helped shape his character as an
optimistic, understated, hard-working, generous, compassionate, and quietly strong
gentleman.

Chris was a graduate of Boston College. He went on to earn his MBA from Dartmouth
College’s Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, where he met his wife Breanna,
a fellow Boston College graduate. Their shared experiences and deep intellectual
connection created a strong foundation for both of their professional paths, their many
enduring friendships, and for their shared life together in the community of Weston,
Massachusetts.

Coaching youth basketball became one of Chris’s true callings. He took great joy in
coaching all three of his children throughout their childhoods, bringing to the court the
same mix of competitiveness, kindness, and team-orientation that he lived by every day.
His players knew him as encouraging, fair, and steady. Chris was a coach who pushed
them to work hard and to value the importance of team achievements over individual
accomplishments. Many young athletes and their families will remember Chris for the
confidence he helped them build and the care he showed on and off the court.

Professionally, Chris was a principled and thoughtful leader. He began his career in
investment banking at Merrill Lynch, where his extraordinary work ethic, humility, and
unshakable endurance quickly stood out. He went on to spend more than two decades at
Wellington Management, devoting the majority of his career to building and leading the
firm’s alternatives platform. Over the years, he served in several key roles, including
President of Wellington Alternative Investments, President of Wellington Funds US,
and Co-Head of Alternatives & Multi-Strategy Product Management. Colleagues
remember him as fiercely committed to excellence on behalf of clients, combining sharp judgment with a deep sense of responsibility and care.

In early 2024, Chris joined Rockefeller Capital Management as Head of Investment and
Client Solutions. Even in a relatively short time, he made an outsized impact as he
elevated the firm’s investment platform and strengthened its culture through the way he
led each day. He was known for his “team first” mindset, his belief in grit as the
cornerstone of great teams, and his unwavering commitment to helping those around
him succeed. Even as he navigated treatment, Chris chose to keep working because he
loved the people with whom he worked and felt a deep sense of purpose in continuing to
build and contribute to this historic firm led by his mentor of 30 years, Greg Fleming.

Beyond titles and accomplishments, Chris will be remembered most for how he made
people feel. Though naturally private, he was warm, thoughtful, and wonderfully candid
with those he trusted. He had a gift for seeing the strengths, perspectives, and talents of
those around him, and helped people feel truly seen and valued. He modeled, day in and
day out, that excellence and kindness are harmonious virtues.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, March 27 at 10am at St. Ignatius Church at
Boston College at 28 Commonwealth Avenue in Chestnut Hill, with a reception to
