Catherine M. “Cathy” James, age 74, of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, passed away on April 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 23, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts, and lived a life marked by love, kindness, and deep connections to those around her.
Cathy was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Elynor Kelly. She was the devoted wife of Walter G. James, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage after their wedding in 1972. Together, they built a beautiful family and a home filled with warmth, laughter, and lasting memories. She was the loving mother of Kevin James of Hyde Park and Brian James and his wife, Kathleen (Kat), of Duxbury. Cathy was also the sister of the late Eileen Kelly.
Her greatest joy was being a grandmother, and she was lovingly known as “Grandma” to Patrick, Sean, Tyler, Tommy, and Mason, each of whom held a very special place in her heart.
Cathy spent more than 25 years working close to home in her Hyde Park community at Stop & Shop. She truly enjoyed the people she worked with and formed friendships that she held dear to her heart. Seeing friends and family stop in while she was working made her days even more special and brought her so much joy.
Above all, Cathy was a loving, kind, and friendly woman whose presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her. She treasured time with her family and friends, especially during holidays, cookouts, and poolside gatherings, often spent with loved ones, including her extended family in North Attleboro. She enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, celebrating the Fourth of July, and spending time at family gatherings. Some of her happiest moments were spent by the pool with her grandchildren and family. She also loved rides by the beach, where she found peace watching the waves.
Cathy was known for her wonderful baking, especially her homemade chocolate chip cookies, which she lovingly made and delivered to her grandchildren. Baking was one of the many ways she showed her love, and her family will always remember the care and joy she put into everything she made. She was a constant presence at her grandchildren’s sporting events, always there to cheer them on with pride, encouragement, and unconditional support.
Cathy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her warm smile, and the love she gave so freely. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her presence, laughter, and love will always be with them.
